Nature has always been my greatest inspiration. I was researching the nocturnal animals of Astral Valley Art Park and settled on the great horned owl as my centerpiece. I sketched the outline of the owl and then worked mostly in Z-brush using trees that matched the eco-system to fill out the body and form. I leaned into the magic of the full harvest moon happening on Saturday, September 26th- to give the owl a halo and used Corel Painter to add organic texture.

There are a lot of easter eggs in the details- the rocket from the art park and the stage, hidden in the crowd; can you spot any of your favorite performers on a rave stick?

Raccoons are also a favorite nocturnal creature that I imagine enjoy a good party. I had a lot of fun adding them in, blending the wooks and the racoons into what I am calling “Wookcoons”. Anyone who has been to a festival in the woods like this knows that feeling that if we stayed for too long, we might all turn into raccoons,which is what has happened to some of the festival goers in the image. They are now inhabiting a “Wookcoonda” utopian world, if you will.
